We did it! Breeding tigers for trade soundly rejected

In a major victory for conservation, raising captive tigers for trade in their parts was rejected by members of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) meeting in The Hague this week.

Parties to the international wildlife convention also urged China to phase out its large-scale commercial tiger farms.

Prior to the decision WWF and other conservation organizations unveiled the massive two-storey-high tiger mosaic, made up of more than 26,000 photos, outside the conference centre urging world leaders to end all trade in tigers. Delegates had to walk past the mosaic on their way to the tiger debate.

4 countries with wild tigers - India, Nepal, Russia and Bhutan - were joined by the United States in advocating for a strong decision for tigers. India called on China to phase out the country’s privately run “tiger farms,” which house nearly 5,000 big cats and are pushing the Chinese government to allow legal trade in tiger parts. With leadership from these countries, the 171 member countries of the CITES convention adopted a strong tiger trade decision by consensus.

China has said that it will not lift its ban without listening to scientific opinion from around the world. The world spoke and urged China not to reopen any trade in tiger parts and to increase protection for tigers in the wild.

This is great news!

Thank you to everyone who took action and added their photo to the tiger mosaic. Without your help this would not have been possible!

Wet Concert
Monday. 7.23.07 2:38 am
Dear Diary,

Yahoo, after 21 years + at last, i able to bring myself to attend a concert (although is not from famous singer that you can think about) but still it was wonderful to bring myself to attend this Penang World Music Festival 2007 despite the heavy downpour. By the way I love mother earth lol.

Okay, the event was held by Tourism Malaysia, Penang Tourism and Sarawak Tourism with lots of sponsors. And i attended the last day of the festival because idk, my friends all going there on sunday so i just tag along.. (but i do the driving).

I woke up on sunday morning, praying that they r no downpour however when the clock strike 5pm, heavy rain had visited us. I called my friends to ask whether they r going or not, but despite all the troublesome, we are still going...

I start my journey at 6pm and reach there at 630pm, and since we were early, we manage to park our car at the nearest spot (but cost me RM2). We bought the tickets on the spot (RM40 for adults, RM10 for childrens, RM20 for Students, Free for children below 6).

Without any delay, we bring ourself to the entrance of Taman Kuarri, Botanical Garden, but on the way up, we stop by a souvenir store and managed to grab a cap and a t-shirt for ourself... (luckily i do so).

When we reach our destination was around 7pm, lots of people had accumulated around the stage area, some brought their own chair, and raincoats, and of course we bring along our umbrella, since it was raining.

7pm, the blast of the speaker, the voice of the MC, had bring the stage up to life, everyone were so exicited jumping and "wow-ing". The 1st group that perform was Malaysian - Astika, however, after they finish their 1st song, the concert had to stop for a while (around 20min) due to the heavy rain n wind blast at Taman Kuarri.

And after 20 min, the concert continue with Malaysian - Astika, and one of my fav was joget, cause we dance along in the mud. By the way, i was standing right infront of the stage with umbrella on.. After the Malaysian - Astika performance at the main stage, they switch to a smaller stage which the place i stand cant see it clearly. Hence we just sway with the music in play...

And after that, the South Africa group was up to entertain us with their traditional music instrument and plays... (one word to describe BRAVO)... they make us laugh, sing, and dance along.. with umbrella on... By that time, the crowds were uncontrollable, a group of young teens and foreigners that purposely attend the concert was dancing away, singing along and wow in the mud.

45min laters, they switch to a small stage again as usual we dont bother to look but sway with the music, and during that time, there was this guy from Syney invite me for a dance LMAO, yeah i joined in the fun and dance with him... he is crazy... so funny and lol we laugh alot.

And something that i enjoyed the most in the whole concert was from Singapore, WickedAura i mean the music blast u away and you dance, and wow with them all along. The lead singer actually make fun of the crowd by saying, the left and right of the crowd were crazy n noisy, but the crowd behind was sleeping.. cause they show no response... Best music... loving it.. And i saw a lengcai, happen to be a guy's bro.. and we was chatting away and managed to take a pic with that lengcai and his bro... lol

And later the small stage with Idk, cause i cant see but sway.... and next was the Italian group, maybe due to language barrier we cant understand his joke... but the music was a bit calm but very nice too... by that i time i shut off my umbrella and dance along (i get my self wet with the rain water lol)... The funniest part of the Italian group was the last song ( i think ) where he hound like a wolve and guess what i hound along..... muahahha...

After this group, it is the end of the concert as what the MC said, when he said good bye, we say NO..... lol and soon, the Finale of the festival started with group from Solomon Island and continued from different countries and etc.....

And the dancer off the stage was getting uncontrollable as they started to kick and dance at the mud pool behind us....

later, when the stage turned into darkness, we know it is time to say good bye, i manage to get hold of that Sydney guy and wish him good bye and good nite... (by the way he actually bring rum to the concert).

Slowly, we move our tired legs to the car park and off we go to McD drive through to get our supper. I reach home around 2am after sending my friend home..... Thats all for the story... Of course my blog wont end without pictures... here you go... do enjoy.
